Burnham Plaza - Chicago Prize 2007

Burnham Plaza is a response to a multifaceted, problematic site condition. The 8 lanes of Lake Shore Drive create a spatial divorce between the east and west sides of Grant park. The design was conceived as a passage which “grafts” the ground plain surrounding Buckingham fountain and stretches it across, and beneath a proposed, raised portion of Lake Shore Drive. This offers continuity and flow between the spaces while preserving the lake Shore Drive experience.
