Roscoe Village

Chicago, IL

This interior renovation is part of a larger addition to an existing home. It includes a new kitchen and powder room space. Opening up the existing kitchen and achieving an increase in storage space were design priorities. Being built in the 1880’s, this structure presented challenges in achieving these goals. Supporting the floor structure above while also rerouting the plumbing and mechanical items was critical in achieving the design intent. In addition to removing walls, incorporating clerestory windows above the upper cabinets contributes to the sense of openness while providing a good daylighting source.
