Torgiano Piazza Nova

Torgiano, Italy

Dating back to roman times, many Italian hill towns where built long before the advent of the car and reflect a dense city fabric scaled to accommodate walking and horse drawn carriages. Making space for the automobile has been an ongoing challenge. The study performed for the Commune de Torgiano included a green belt of parks acting as a smart growth boundary, connected by paths leading to a redesigned piazza. This piazza complete with underground parking, frees the ground level of automobile parking.
